Confogl, a L4D2 competitive server config
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Thu, 17/12/2009 - 09:15Well known US player Surgica1 grouped up with philogl to release a frustian's like server config for L4D2.
I've later become involved in the project by packaging and releasing a couple of version with bugfixes, updates and such.
I've also managed to set up the official google code page where the project is located, so if you want to know more about it just click the link above.
The main object of the config is to balance the game by removing medkits, defibs, special ammo types, reducing the ammounts of item spawns and so on. There are also reduced spawn timers and for all the hardcore l4d2 players, there's an additional "special infected buffs" config that you can enable, which improves some of the abilities of the infected.
Even though there has been some discussion about the actual need of the additional SI improvements, i would reccomend everybody to test out the changes before expressing their opinion.
Many of the teams i've played against were happy with the changes added to the game and it seems like confogl is being accepted well by the community.
I've added the config to all of our servers, and it's reloading automatically, so if you want to try it out without installing it first on your dedicated nest go ahead and use one of these servers :)
Last but not least, the config has a dedicated steam group, which i encourage all of you to join to get updates and to eventually find pcws with people that want to play with the config.
New L4D 2 campaign being presented at ComicCon [Wet wet wet]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Mon, 13/07/2009 - 14:03You know they said there will be weather variations on the upcoming title, L4D 2? Remember?
We all were gazing at the sunset in the daylight maps footage we seen.
We also were told weather was gonna affect the infected. The witch will wander around when the sun is up, for example.
But what about rain? Well, from the picture above, it doesnt seem the infected are happy when the weather is bad.
I mean, who is anyway?!
Valve playing around with TF2 users [TF2 MMORPG]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Sun, 03/05/2009 - 19:24
Team Fortress 2 devs sure know how to keep the buzz up. First we get the announcement of a new Sniper Update, then the UI is patched to support future items, and now all this RPG stuff.
After the mentioned update, the internets went all crazy because of kotaku saying that the new features would make our TF2 look a lot more like the classic RPG Series Diablo, using items to differentiate the player's skills.
Then, an impressive Garry's mod mock up was made here, and the minds of the TF2 fans flew higher and higher...
Latest news is the devs have gone so far, that they included little traces in the code of the last update:
//—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—--
// TF2 MMO
"TF_MMO_LFG" "Looking For Group"
"TF_MMO_Quest1" "You must kill %s1 %s2 to complete this quest."
"TF_MMO_Monster1" "Boars"
"TF_MMO_Monster2" "Rats"
"TF_MMO_Monster3" "Bats"
"TF_MMO_Monster4" "Wolves"
"TF_MMO_Monster5" "Spiders"
Wouldn't it be amazing to see a MMORPG with the looks of TF2?
Zeno Clash devs trying to appeal to pirates conscience [Piracy]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Sun, 03/05/2009 - 18:55
After announcing that Zeno Clash will have its own free DLC, the chaps at ACE Team are trying to reason with pirates.
We all know how things work on the internet: when you want to get something that you usually should pay, for free, you just have to search for it, and despite all the counter measures applied up until now, this has not changed. Zeno Clash devs are aware of it and are trying a different approach to the situation.
I’m one of the developers of Zeno Clash. I would appreciate you read this if you are about to download this file.
Zeno Clash is an independently funded game by a very small and sacrificed group of people. The only way in which we can continue making games like this (or a sequel) is to have good sales.I am aware that at this moment there is still no demo of the game, but we are working on one which will be available soon.
We cannot do anything to stop piracy of the game (and honestly don’t intend to do so) but if you are downloading because you wish to try before you buy, I would ask that you purchase the game (and support the independent game development scene) if you enjoy it. We plan on updating Zeno Clash with DLC and continuing support for the game long after it’s release.
Thanks for taking the time to read this… hopefully it will make a difference.
Carlos Bordeu
ACE Team
This is the message that appeared on quite a few torrent sites all over the web.
When asked about it, from TorrentFreak news site, Carlos Bordeu from ACE Team simply replied:
Our ‘anti-piracy’ technique is basically the best approach we thought was possible. I think appealing to the conscience of people who download the game is the best we can do. Zeno Clash is not an expensive game. We don’t believe in restrictive DRM.
[...]
We honestly think that ‘converting’ the people who download the game into buyers is a much better strategy than trying to fight them. We are also improving the original game, so it will include features and content that people who download the game will probably miss.
I honestly think that this is the only true way of fighting piracy, and i fully support the devs of Zeno Clash on their anti piracy "campaign".

Zeno Clash is out!
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Tue, 21/04/2009 - 21:14I bought the game about a month ago, when the game was announced on steam and the price was cut. The artwork made me remember of the Oddworld series, one of the first games i've ever played and still one of the best ones, so i felt guilty about not buying it.
I still haven't played it yet, but all the news about this game i read were really positive. The folks at Rock Paper Shotgun made a cool review of it, but i suggest you to watch the trailers on the app page before reading it, otherwise it'll be pretty much confusing (at least for a non activespeaker).
I just hope the L4D DLC won't get in the way so i'll be able to give this game the time it deserves. It really is a mistery why the ACE Team decided to set the release date on the same day of the Survival Pack.

Left 4 Dead Survival Pack and DLC is almost out! [L4D]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Tue, 21/04/2009 - 20:38Sorry i didn't update the blog at all these days, but i had an exam last week and this weekend i was too busy gaming to read the news and report you the latest stuff.
Anyway, FRAKKING BIG NEWS, the Left 4 Dead DLC, consisting of the death toll and dead air maps for the versus mode and the additional Survival mode is out in a few HOURS.
The update will be totally free and will be applied automatically.
Above and below there are two videos from the new survival mode, which has been detailed some days ago on the official L4D blog, with this post. There's nothing much to say, after you've read the article and watched the two vids. It will be a blast.
Also, i want to thank Valve, for making such awesome games and for updating them for free.
We love you guys.

Painkiller: Overdose now priced only €5
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Tue, 07/04/2009 - 18:05
You know, i had a really fun time with the original Painkiller, it's one of my favourite single player First Person Shooter game, but i still haven't played the expansion, named Painkiller: Overdose.
It has recently been downpriced to €4,99, and this might be a good reason for everyone who hasn't played it yet, including me, to have some fun wasting demonic creatures.
Team Fortress 2 Played On a Mario Kart Track [Team Fortress 2 Mods]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Sun, 05/04/2009 - 17:51
A lot of gamers are Nintendo fans, and a lot of Nintendo fans are also Mario Kart fans. That would be the only game i played on the wii, an i admit it's fun.
I also love Team Fortress, as you can guess, so here goes the perfect map if you like these two games!
So that wasn't a prank after all [Team Fotress 2 Sniper Update]
Submitted by D4rKr0W on Fri, 03/04/2009 - 14:15When you read about these news you always get a little excited, dont you? Well, i do for sure!
We all know Team Fortress 2 is a wondefrul game, but we also all know that the guys at VALVE just cant' stop making it better than it already is.
Yesterday they posted a sneak peak that hinted at some strange pee jar, but it turned out to be a prank for april fool's day.
But today a post on the official Team Fortress blog revealed that they indeed are working on a sniper update (my predictions were correct, yay!), here's the quote from the announcement post:
Eat these two videos.
